Unger Family 2011

The Unger Family

Born and raised on a farm himself, Matt Unger has farming in his blood. As a third generation farmer and a graduate from OSU with a BS in Agriculture, Matt brings great experience and knowledge to his farm.

Matt and his wife, Kathy, have been running this farm since the early days of their marriage where they settled down and started to raise their family. Their four children, and a few spouses, are all very active in the farm's production to this day and look forward to continuing the family business for years to come.

The Land- The Unger farm is growing!

Adding another 63 acres to their original 80 in early 2010 brings the total acreage to 144. These two parcels of land were once a large dairy farm prior to the Unger's 80 acre purchase back in 1984. Everyone is happy to see the land back together under one family.

How we sell

Originally sending most produce to the cannery, Unger farms has evolved into a fresh market/wholesale farm. It all started with one farmers' market, The Hillsboro FM. Year after year, as the Ungers built their loyal customer base, they continued to add more outlets to their growing list. Now, 27 years later, the Ungers attend 18 farmers markets in a given week, sell to 20 + grocery stores/roadside stands/restaurants/school lunch programs, and added their newest pride and joy: Unger's Farm Store.Matt and Kathy Unger

Produce

As customer demand rose, so did the expectation of quality fresh berries. Ever since the Ungers first took interest in fresh market sales, Matt has not stopped looking for the best varieties. What began as raising just strawberries and cucumbers was no longer sufficient. Cucumbers were eventually cut from the list while more berries, a U-pick area and U-cut flowers have been added to the mix. Our list of crops now includes blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, table grapes and what we're known best for- STRAWBERRIES.
