Growing on our Farm

  • What variety are these berries?
  • Click here to view the berry varieties that we grow and when those varieties usually come into season.
  • When were these picked?
  • We get everything picked within 24 hours of the market they are going to. All our fruit is also pre-cooled, which helps our product stay fresh for you.
  • Have these been sprayed?
  • When necessary, we do spray for pest control. All products we use are no or low risk.
  • How long has Unger Farms been in business?
  • Since 1984.
  • How many acres is Unger Farm?
  • 144 acres.
  • Is your produce organic?
  • No, our produce is not organic. However we practice sustainable farming by using an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan.
  • What is IPM?
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices.

    IPM programs are based on current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment.
  • Can I buy berries at the farm?

  • What is the best way to store berries?
  • Click here to read the best way to store berries.
  • Do berries freeze well?
  • Yes, all berries freeze well. You just need to wash, cap, and put them into a freezer container. They will keep well in the freezer up to 12 months.

    Tip: you can also first freeze them on a cookie sheet in a single layer for a few hours to help keep their shape and then move them into a freezer container.

  • How healthy are blueberries?
  • Blueberries provide 5 grams of fiber per cup, have no fat, have no cholesterol, are low sodium, high in Potassium, high in Iron, high in Vitamin A & C, rich in antioxidants, and only have 40 calories per 1/2 cup serving.
  • What are the Health Benefits of eating fruit?
  • All fruits are high in Antioxdiants and Vitamin C and are low in calories. Dark colored fruits are known to be powerful disease fighters according to recent studies by Rutgers University.

  • How many cups are in a pint?
  • Generally 1 pint of medium sized fruit will fill 2 cups.
  • How many pints do I need to make a 9 inch pie?
  • A 9 inch pie takes about 1-1/2 quarts which is 3 pints of fruit.
  • How many berries do I need to make 1 batch of jam?
  • Jam takes 2 cups of crushed strawberries which is about 2-1/2 pints.
